How triathlon finish time is calculated
Swim time is distance multiplied by pace, bike time is distance divided by speed, and run time is distance multiplied by pace. The estimated finish is swim + T1 + bike + T2 + run. Transitions count toward the finish time. Each segment is rounded to the nearest whole second before the cumulative clock and total are added, so every visible row reconciles exactly.
The calculation assumes a constant average pace or speed throughout each discipline. It does not model course elevation, road surface, wind, water current, temperature or fatigue. Enter averages you believe you can sustain over the selected distance rather than short-interval best efforts.
Triathlon pace calculation example
For an Olympic-distance race, a swim pace of 2:00 per 100 metres produces a 30:00 swim. Cycling 40 km at 32 km/h takes 1:15:00, and running 10 km at 5:00 per kilometre takes 50:00. Add a 3:00 T1 and 2:00 T2 and the estimated finish time is 2:40:00.

These are conventional planning values, and an individual event may use a course that is slightly longer or shorter. Choose Custom when the organizer publishes different measured distances.

How do I calculate my triathlon finish time?

Does triathlon time include transitions?
Yes. Both T1 and T2 are part of the official elapsed race time, so this calculator includes them in the split table, cumulative clock and finish estimate.
What distances are used for Sprint, Olympic, 70.3 and full-distance triathlons?
The planning presets use 750 m / 20 km / 5 km for Sprint, 1.5 km / 40 km / 10 km for Olympic, 1.9 km / 90 km / 21.1 km for 70.3, and 3.8 km / 180 km / 42.2 km for full distance. Actual courses can vary.
Can I use miles, yards and mph?
Yes. Choose Imperial to enter the swim in yards and pace per 100 yards, bike and run distances in miles, bike speed in mph, and run pace per mile. Switching units preserves the physical scenario.
How accurate is a triathlon pace calculator?
It is an arithmetic estimate based on constant average pace and speed. It does not model elevation, weather, currents, turns, fatigue or course conditions, so use realistic averages and treat the result as a planning aid.
Can I enter a custom race distance?
Yes. Select Custom and enter separate swim, bike and run distances. Standard presets use conventional planning distances, while the custom option supports events whose measured courses differ.
